Trick

Trick

©2010 Mary Cunningham

Letters were written
All sealed with a kiss
The signs were all there
Except the ones I missed
Where does the love go
Now that you’re no longer there
Does it recycle back to my heart
Or hang in mid air
I’ve tried every trick
I know to try
From the silent treatment
To letting you see me cry
Nothing has worked
I still don’t have you
Sometimes I think
If you saw me, felt me
Just one more time
You might think twice

And change your mind

Funny thing about free will
We can do all we can
Deal the cards and play
But there’s nothing we can do
To make them stay
Now the only choice
Is to let it all go
Clear out the space
For new love to grow

I’ve tried every trick
I know to try
From the silent treatment
To letting you see me cry
Pray soon it won’t matter
That I don’t have you
